Whoyteboyce of Hoodie Head - a portmanteau of verbal association-disassociation. Some of its contents follows. (1) White and black (i.e., hoodie = crow = black) in all moods and senses; hooded white head suggests the KKK and white-black racial conflict. (2) White Boys, 18th-century Irish agrarian agitators who, like the KKK, went about disguised by night, taking "law" into their own hands. (3) White, Hoyte, Boyce were Lord Mayors of Dublin. So, too, is HCE; in "Haveth Childers Everywhere" (532-54) he is all the mayors.
It occurs in a passage stuffed with the names of Lord Mayors of Dublin, including White, Hoyte, Boyce (536.14,22). In Wildean context, "boyce" takes on the suggestion of Wilde's "boys," especially Lord Alfred Douglas, whom Wilde called "Bosie."
